Founded: 1856   Employees: 47,170
Industry: Investment Banking, Financial Services

Our strategy builds on Credit Suisse's core strengths: its position as a leading wealth manager, its specialist investment banking capabilities and its strong presence in our home market of Switzerland. We seek to follow a balanced approach to wealth management, aiming to capitalize on both the large pool of wealth within mature markets as well as the significant growth in wealth in Asia Pacific and other emerging markets, while also serving key developed markets with an emphasis on Switzerland.

Founded in 1856, we today have a global reach with operations in about 50 countries and 47,170 employees from over 150 different nations. Our broad footprint helps us to generate a geographically balanced stream of revenues and net new assets and allows us to capture growth opportunities around the world. We serve our clients through three regionally-focused divisions: Swiss Universal Bank, International Wealth Management and Asia Pacific. These regional businesses are supported by two other divisions specializing in investment banking capabilities: Global Markets and Investment Banking & Capital Markets.

Banking today is a technology business, where digital ingenuity creates competitive advantage. At Credit Suisse, we are committed to delivering world-class technology innovation that enables our clients to reach their goals. Find out more about Credit Suisse.

At Credit Suisse we aim to create an inclusive workplace where all employees are treated with dignity and respect and where each individual has the opportunity to advance and succeed. The diversity of our workforce and the different skills, mindsets and experience of our employees give us a better understanding of client needs, cultural aspects and regional markets and open up a broader range of business opportunities. At Credit Suisse we want to make our diverse profile a competitive advantage.

By partnering with Modern Muse we are not only able to give something back to our community but at the same time, we hope to inspire young women to consider a career in Banking, something which may not have been on their radar before.

Why does Credit Suisse care so much about STEM skills?

(Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are the foundations of the industrial and corporate world and whilst they are some of the most important subjects, students often overlook them. It is a highly desirable skill-set that is in high demand by employers, including us.

We frequently hear about the opportunities and challenges of closing the gaps in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) education and employment. For Credit Suisse, increasing the diversity of our global workforce is an important commitment. The research conducted by the bank and others is clear: companies with a diverse workforce, including having women in senior management roles, perform better than those that do not.

Today women make up half the workforce, but only 24% of these women are in jobs relating to STEM subjects.  At Credit Suisse we dedicate our time to providing opportunities to students studying to enter a career in IT. We have a Technical Analyst program, which provides us with a pipeline to develop and grow and an active IT Women’s Council, which is a strategic, proactive, empowering, solution-oriented business network that aims to attract, retain and promote women by providing and facilitating opportunities for professional development within Technology.

Earlier this year Credit Suisse entered into a partnership with US-based organization STEMconnector, with Laura Barrowman, Group Chief Technology Officer, STEM advocate and IT Women’s Council Global Sponsor as Credit Suisse’s Executive Champion. This organization is both a resource and service provider, designed to link “all things STEM” through initiatives and a portfolio of products. STEMconnector facilitates collaboration between business, government, education providers and non-profit organisations.

Our commitment to STEM is clear, as an organization we are making steps towards increasing the number of women in the finance and technology pipeline, by reaching them at a critical point in their education.
